Beautiful weather is a boater’s dream and on this day, that dream was shattered.  Most boat owners think about their responsibility to purchase insurance as a collision on the water, or a boat breaking down and a tow being required. While Boat Insurance is great for these incidents, it is ever better when the unexpected happens and a major incident occurs, whether you are on your boat or not.

Just recently, a boat that was ablaze had been cut free from the docks and set adrift in the river! This boat caused fire damage to two other boats on the marina, went under a bridge and almost burned an entire house down! The fire company was able to assist the river in getting the fire put out, but now what? The boat is demolished and has to be recovered, and there’s a potential fuel leak which has to be cleaned up.  Both recovery and pollution are mostly covered under a boat insurance policy as well as the liability of damaging other property such as boats, bridges, docks or even homes.

It’s important to think about  boat insurance and to add that boat underneath your personal umbrella to truly protect you from the unknown. For all of this coverage, boat insurance is extremely cost effective and policies should be maxed out for liability. The few extra dollars per year could wind up saving you thousand, or tens of thousands, in the future.

It doesn’t matter what kind of boat you have. Part of being a responsible owner for any vehicle is to make certain that you’re insured in order to protect yourself and those around you if an accident occurs. If you want to review your boat insurance or get a quote for new boat insurance, let us know!

P.S. Boat insurance is a 12 Month policy and covers your assets during dry dock and during the off season!
