May is a great month! The weather keeps getting warmer, and we can finally get out there and enjoy barbecues, bike rides, days at the beach, and all the other outdoor activities we love. Let’s go fly a kite! Both the young and the young at heart know there’s something special about watching dozens of kites, in all shapes, sizes and colors of the spectrum, soaring simultaneously. Sunday, May 5, starting at 11:00 a.m., the first Belmar Kite Festival of the year takes off! (The second is in September.) It will be on Belmar Beach at 3rd Avenue. This is a free event for anyone wanting to participate or just watch, so come enjoy the warm weather and the kaleidoscope of swirling colors!
Mother’s Day at Monmouth Park Racetrack
If you’re looking for something to do on Mother’s Day that will be fun for the kids as well as treat Mom to a special day, on Sunday, May 12 the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport is hosting a Mother’s Day event that will feature pony rides, face painting and bouncy houses for the kids, and a champagne bar and numerous giveaways for her. There will also be a brunch buffet. Moms and kids under 12 are free; admission is $5 for everyone else. Treat the special lady in your life (or yourself!) to a memorable day at the beautiful Monmouth Park Racetrack this year!
New Jersey Seafood Festival in Belmar
The Jersey Shore and great seafood go together like peanut butter and jelly! The weekend of May 17, 18 & 19, come to downtown Belmar to enjoy the 33rd annual New Jersey Seafood Festival. There will be delicious lobster, clams, scallops, crab cakes and much more. Admission is free. The relocation of the festival this year from Silver Lake Park to the downtown also means bakeries, cafes, clothing stores, the arcade and other attractions will be close by so you and your family can enjoy even more on your outing!
What do you think of when Memorial Day is around the corner? Hopefully you’re remembering the members of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, but we’re sure you associate Memorial Day with family cookouts, fun in the sun and big parades as well. One such parade is being held in Freehold on Monday, May 27 starting at 10:00 a.m. In its 145th year, this is the largest and longest consecutively running Memorial Day parade in New Jersey. The goal every year is to make it bigger and better than the previous year, so this is one you won’t want to miss!
