Tomorrow is Independence Day, and summer is in full swing! Your friends at LG Insurance hope you’ll get out and enjoy the sea breeze and sunshine at these events happening in Monmouth County this July.
Fireworks should be part of any Independence Day celebration, but Oceanfest offers so much more than just a fireworks show. Oceanfest is New Jersey’s largest Independence Day celebration and rolls a music festival, craft show, street fair and day at the beach all into one! If you’re looking for something fun and unforgettable to do this Fourth of July, come to Long Branch’s oceanfront promenade for a day of family fun. It starts at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free. Make sure you stay until the end for a massive fireworks show!
If you like great seafood, beer and horse races, come to the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport on the weekend of July 13-14 for the Surf & Turf Seafood Festival! Both days will include live music and tons of fresh, local seafood. Sunday is Family Fun Day, where you can bring your kids to enjoy free pony rides, face painting, a bouncy house and more. This is a great option whether you want to just lay back and relax or have a day of fun activities with your kids. Grandstand admission is $5.
So many of us have fond childhood memories of constructing sandcastles on the beach, and some of us still love building them with our kids. Beyond being a fun activity, building beautiful and unique structures out of sand is an art that takes talent and practice to perfect. On Wednesday, July 17, we can all enjoy the stunning creations that these sand crafting artists construct at the 33rd Annual New Jersey Sandcastle Contest which will take place on the 18th Avenue Beach in Belmar. There will be awards for younger age categories if your kids want to participate! Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. Judging begins at noon. This event is free to both participants and spectators.
Summer just doesn’t feel complete without going to a fair! The East Freehold Showgrounds will host this year’s Monmouth County Fair from Wednesday, July 24 to Sunday, July 28. Along with everything else you’d expect a good fair to have—food, music, rides, arts & crafts—the Monmouth County Fair also includes their Home & Garden Competition, where you can show off your baked goods, flowers, vegetables, art, needlework or other crafts, and maybe take home a ribbon!
